One of the most anticipated AW releases of 2012 is, of course, the Karl Lagerfeld collaboration with Shu Uemura. Lagerfeld and Uemura, were longtime friends, and Lagerfeld has design a carefully crafted holiday collection with a vibe bordering between edgy and cute and gorgeously reinterpreting the classic reds and greens. Keep reading to find out how to get a “Mon Shu” (named for the character on the palettes) look with the collection.
To start this look, prime your lids with a thin layer of NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. Then, using the Prestigious Bordeaux palette (limited edition in the Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura collection), apply the soft brown shadow to the center of the lid, blending outwards. Add the shimmering light purple to the inner corner, drawing it along the lower lashline as well for a bit of extra impact, and create a gradient between the two shades.
Follow the light purple with the dark plum above it, adding definition by blending the shade into the outer corner and through the crease. Using an eyeliner smudge brush (we love Chanel Small Eyeshadow Brush), draw the shadow along the outer half of your lower lashline as well, pulling upwards at the outer corner to connect it with the colour on your lids. For a more dramatic eye, take the same shade just along the upper lashline and blend into the “outer V” of your lids, working quickly as it dries to soften the edges.
Pull the look together by using Clinique Quickliner Intense in Intense Charcoal, to line your eyes, along the waterline and upper lashline. Finish by curling your lashes (we love Bobbi Brown Eyelash Curler) and applying two coats of Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara for a dramatic fringe of lashes with no clumping or flaking.
There are four Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipsticks within this collection, and while all of them would pair well with the Prestigious Bordeaux palette, we’ve used Luxe Burgundy for this look. The creamy texture and hydrating formula make the Rouge Unlimited lipsticks the perfect autumn/winter lipstick, and the shade is a great cold-weather choice – subdued without being too full-on.
Both of the Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura Eye & Cheek Palettes come with a warm red Glow-On Blush, but we chose a more contoured cheek for this look, offsetting the sharp edge with a softer colour.
To get this look at home, contour your cheeks with a taupey-brown powder, like Chanel Ombre Contraste in Notorious. Blend the edges well, then add a soft, warm pink to the cheeks – we’ve used Clarins Blush Prodige in Miami Pink, whose finely-milled shimmer makes it perfect for adding a winter flush.
