With festival season already underway, there’s only one thing left to do in the beauty world: bring out the flowers. There’s something about the playful, almost over-the-top nature about festival beauty–all summery braids and shiny rhinestones–that would seem terribly out of place elsewhere, but absolutely shines (sometimes literally) at summer festivals.
From a small-town pavement performance to a big-budget gig like Coachella, here’s an easy, floral festival look to take to the streets.
Get The Lids
Your floral makeup can be paired with anything, but I like to go with a neutral lid (shimmery, of course) and a pop of colour along the lower lashline & blended out. Try a seafoam green, a bright blue, or a sheer-but-vibrant violet, then pair with black waterproof mascara to keep your lashes from wilting through the day.
For a more intense look, add messy, smoked-out black eyeliner around the eyes, and don’t be afraid to throw in a strip of densely-packed false lashes!
Get The Base
Before adding the flowers to this look, you’ll want to do your base. For a more editorial, high-impact look, choose a semi-matte foundation with medium to full coverage; for a more comfortable look that’ll withstand the heat, apply a tinted moisturiser (of at least SPF 30) with your fingers, then finish with powder and/or a setting spray, like MAC Fix+ or Urban Decay De-Slick.
For the cheeks, choose a shimmery bronzer if your flowers will be matte, or a matte one if your flowers will be shimmery. Add to the face in a “3″ shape, blending well and buffing out the edges, and remember to apply sparingly — you don’t want too many focal points for the look, so a deep bronze will be hard to pull off.
Get The Flowers
Adding flowers to this look might just be the easiest part — it takes patience, for sure, but you definitely don’t need to be an artist to do it! Working with a thin eyeliner brush (think a MAC 210) for precision, add a combination of flowers and dots to your face, concentrating most of them on one side. A bright white pops well on almost any skin tone, but you can use any colour; just make sure it’s intensely pigmented and won’t stain.
Pro products like Make Up For Ever’s Aquarelle or Flash Colour product lines would be perfect for a look like this one, but a creamy eyeliner (I used a NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil) is a great choice if your selection is a little more limited!
Finish off the look with another spritz of setting spray, then add your lip colour — try a vibrant red if you’ve added smokey eyeliner, or pick a sheer melon or guava balm for a lighter look.
