Younger looking skin seems to be all anyone can talk about. It really does not even matter what the actual age of the person is, they want beautiful and youthful looking skin. Lines and wrinkles, sunspots and freckles, and other ageing features are not signs of wisdom as they once were. We want our knowledge, not our bodies to reflect our age. What we know now, is not what our mothers and grandmothers knew, but wish they had.
The world is forever changing. What was not a big deal ten years ago is a big deal today. Free radical damage, sun damage, and natural ageing processes affect our skin.
As you may remember from those secondary school science classes, atoms consist of a nucleus, neutorons, protons and electrons. The number of protons (positive charges) inside the nucleus determines the number of electrons (negative charges) outside the atom. When an atom shares electrons it bonds to another atom. Very rarely is there an atom with a disproportionate number of electrons surrounding it compared to the number of protons inside the nucleus. However, if a bond is weak, it can split – producing the free radical. Free radicals are highly unstable and will try (and most likely succeed) to react with another stable molecule – the drive to be stable is uncontrollable. The free radical will attack the closest stable molecule and steal the number of electrons it needs to once again become stable. After the treachery, the defeated molecule will then become a free radical, thus perpetuating the process. In the end, it can result in the disruption of a living cell.
While this is a lot to take in and seems quite frightening – there is not a direct need to be worried about this process. It is a natural process, normally happening in metabolism. Sometimes your body will need to create free radicals in order to fight viruses or bacteria. However, environmental factors are placing stress on our bodies – pollution, radiation, cigarette smoke, and herbicides can produce free radicals. The particular problem with this is as we age, the more free radical damage we accumulate.
It is understood UVA and UVB damage to the skin will produce very real side effects. UVA rays dig deep into the skin and damage collagen, resulting in wrinkles. Most sun damage is the result of UVA damage, and without proper treatment and care, can sometimes be permanent. Freckles and sunspots are a direct result of sun exposure. Sunburn is probably our biggest fear (even for the most frequent sunbather). When you burn, white blood cells rush to the area to try to repair the damage done. Repeated burning may lead to DNA damage, which is linked to cancer. Our skin goes through a lot in this world!
We have these free radicals damaging our best and most precious asset and the environment is just tirelessly against us. What are we supposed to do about it?! There are, of course, numerous ways from the très expensive to the shockingly thrifty and from home remedies to lab techniques to use against damage. And occasionally, the best is just somewhere right in the middle.
Before the products, one must come up with a skincare regime. Ladies, a swipe of a washcloth with some soap and some lotion on your face just is not going to cut it this time. We need to step it up with a three-step process. The benefits to using a three-step process will, if tried, clearly produce an enormous difference in the look and feel of your skin.
The first step in this process is the cleanser. Choose a cleanser that best fits your skin type. While a certain product may work wonders for one person, it may not work for another. Your skin type will determine the texture and thickness of the cleanser that you should use. As with any face wash, rubbing the cleanser into your skin with circular motions is key. Don’t miss important spots – the nose and hairline. The second step most find optional, is to use toner. When you use a toner, it will get rid of any trace of cleanser still on your face along with excess makeup. A toner will temporarily shrink your pores to give your skin the best chance it has got to accept the most care from any other product you put on your face after the fact. And finally, a moisturiser will finish the deed. Follow this regime twice a day – every morning and every night.
There are so many amazing products on the market. Some are too expensive, some have unnatural ingredients, some just do not work and some are hidden treasures. One hidden treasure is the Amway Artistry Time Defiance Collection. The Artistry skincare line is the only direct-selling skincare and cosmetics brand to earn recognition in the premium brand category. Even Sandra Bullock is excited about the products ! What makes the system truly fabulous, is the innovation – 200 patents and patents-pending are being held, and only the best ingredients are used in the products.
The Time Defiance line offers two skincare systems that will reduce visible fine lines and wrinkles while improving your skin’s firmness, smoothness and luminosity. Each system comes with a cleanser, toner and cream or lotion. The systems will give you 41% younger looking skin while either increasing hydration or restoring balance.
What you see on your skin is created deep in the dermal layers from years and years of damage. Just reaching the top layer is not going to be enough to reverse the signs of ageing. One has to dig deep and start from the inside to repair the outside.
Looking youthful is not an easy feat. Finding a skincare line or procedure that works for you is key to maintaining a fresh and dewy look. Whatever your budget and time restraints, there is a product out there and there are exceptionally wonderful ways to keep your skin damage free and age defiant.
