2012 is shaping up to be the year of the fairy tale. With not one, but two new interpretations of the classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, a thrilling Hansel and Gretel follow-up, and a dark, haunting Sleeping Beauty, reinterpretations of these childhood favourites back — and in a big way.
While these summer blockbusters won’t be out until, well, the summer, winter just so happens to be the perfect time to try out the fairy tale trend. To get this ethereal, “snow queen” look, keep reading.
Get the eyes

Sometimes, the eyes with the most impact are the easiest to do. For this look, pat a light, almost-white blue across your lid. Then, blend the colour out around the edges with a warm, greyish taupe, emphasizing your crease if you have double lids. Finally, add a shimmery white or off-white pigment into the inner corners of your eyes.
To finish off the look, add a flick of black liner to the upper lashline and two coats of mascara to both the upper and lower lashes.
Try these: MAC Eyeshadow in Aqua or Barry M Dazzle Dust in Baby Blue, MAC Pigment in Vanilla, Lancome Artliner in Black.
Get the cheeks

Once the eyes are finished, clean up your undereye area with a cotton bud and oil-free makeup remover. Then, add your base products – choose a moisture-rich foundation, add concealer if needed, and top with powder.
To add a bit of colour and definition to the cheeks, sweep a matte contour blusher under your cheekbones using an angled cheek brush. Buff a small amount of colour to the apples of your cheeks (try a plum shade if you have cool undertones, or a peach if you have warm undertones), then pat a hilighter onto the tops of your cheekbones, blending out well.
Try these: MAC Powder Blush in Harmony, Benefit High Beam.
Get the lips

Finally, for this snow queen look, balance your off-white lids with a dark, muted berry lipstick. Blot for a more wearable look, or wear more heavily for a more contrastive lip.
Try this: Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in True Vintage.
